PHYA 642 - Clinical Pharmacotherapeutics II

Instructional Method: Two hours lecture.
Prerequisites: PHYA 641 .
The second in a sequence of three courses designed to provide a solid foundation in pharmacokinetics and pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. This course combines the disciplines of traditional pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and clinical pharmacotherapeutics. The course will enable PA students to acquire and refine the knowledge and skills necessary for the effective, safe and cost-effective management in the delivery of patient care. Included in this course are the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; the mechanism of action, toxicities, and interactions; and medical therapeutics of specific drugs and drug groups. This course will follow an organ system approach in conjunction with the MSPA plan of study. This course fulfills a portion of the State of Virginia’s requirements for Physician Assistants to apply for prescriptive authority.
