MUSC 303 - Field Studies IV: Music Therapy Ensemble

Prerequisites: MUSC 161  /MUSC 162 , MUSC 164 , MUSC 168 MUSC 206 , MUSC 210 , MUSC 166 , MUSC 174 , MUSC 186 , music therapy major, upper-level standing, or permission of instructor
This performance-based class will count as one of the small, uncoached, ensembles within the music department core curriculum. Students will engage with a music therapy clinical population with the intention of forming the ensemble, choosing and arranging the music, conducting the ensemble, and performing with the ensemble. The type of music chosen will depend on the needs of the clients and the clinical setting. Students must acquire 12 client-contact hours within the semester. Field Studies IV will culminate with a music therapy qualifying exam, used to evaluate functional musicianship, basic interview skills, and comprehensive knowledge of the music therapy professional competencies.
