MATH 116 - Math and Humanity

Instructional Method: Three hours lecture.
Mathematics is studied in its historical and cultural context, as a creative human endeavor. Topics covered include numerical and geometrical ideas and their development, sets, infinity, formal logic, and applications to music and the visual arts.

Note(s): Will not satisfy requirements for a major in mathematics. Students who have received credit for MATH 168, MATH 169, or MATH 171 may not also receive credit for MATH 116. This course has been approved for credit in the Mathematical Sciences Area of the Core Curriculum.
