MATH 116 - Math and Humanity

Instructional Method: Three hours lecture.
Mathematics is studied in its historical and cultural context, as a creative human endeavor. Topics covered include numerical and geometrical ideas and their development, sets, infinity, formal logic, and applications to music and the visual arts.

Note(s): Will not satisfy requirements for a major in mathematics. Students who have received credit for MATH 168 , MATH 169 , or MATH 171  may not also receive credit for MATH 116. This course has been approved for credit in the Mathematical Sciences Area of the Core Curriculum.
