BIOL 477 - Comparative Neuroscience Credits: (4) Instructional Method: Three hours lecture; three hours laboratory. Prerequisites: A grade of “C” or better in BIOL 131 , BIOL 132 , BIOL 231 , and BIOL 232 ; or a grade of “C” or better in BIOL 111 , BIOL 112 , and BIOL 222 , and one of the following courses: BIOL 310 , BIOL 350 , or BIOL 351 ; or permission of the instructor. An introduction to basic and fundamental concepts in the field of neuroscience. This course will provide an introduction and overview of several core neuroscience areas including cell and molecular biology of neurons, synaptic transmission, cognition, perception, movement, arousal, emotion, behavior, thought, learning and memory. The laboratory component will emphasize the importance of discovery and students will participate in animal research.
