Instructional Method: Three hours lecture.
This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the historical, philosophical, and sociological foundations that underpin the role, development, and organization of public education in the United States. This course delves into selected key issues in education, including the purposes and philosophies of education, the legal status and rights of teachers and students, school culture and organization, assessment and instruction dynamics, school finance, and various educational reform efforts. Through critical analysis, students examine the impact of legal, political, economic, and societal factors on schooling and teaching, with an emphasis on their implications for future educators.
