ENGL 300 - Introduction to English Studies (WD) (WI)Credits: (3) Instructional Method: Three hours lecture. Prerequisites: ENGL 111 and ENGL 112 and one of the following: English major, English minor, IDSE major with a concentration in English, IDSM major with a concentration in English, or permission of the instructor. This writing-in-the-discipline course introduces students to a variety of historical, cultural, and social contexts for English Studies, fundamental skills of literary analysis, the conventions of different literary genres, the use of various literary practices, and research and writing in the discipline. The course also offers an overview of other aspects of the discipline—e.g., language and linguistics—with attention to possible career options.
