RCPT 381 - Tourism Field ExperienceCredits: (6) Instructional Method: Lectures, labs and field trips integrated into an experiential, primarily off-campus, course. Prerequisites: Permission of instructor. A field-based, experiential learning course that takes place primarily in the field such as aboard a large sailing yacht traveling the Caribbean islands, or a van trip across the southeast, or others. The course provides an overview of the field of travel and tourism, with emphasis placed on natural resources planning and management, sustainable tourism, and the social and environmental issues that impact communities and their environments. The course typically exposes students to guest speakers, various tourist attractions, recreation activities, cultural immersion, and practical field experiences in the form of a research project or applied learning experience that ties back to the student’s own area of interest.
