PHYA 712 - Elective Clinical Rotation II

Credits: (3)

Prerequisites: Completion of didactic year of study in the PA Program.
The four-week elective rotation is designed to provide the student an opportunity to pursue an area of personal interest, including medical subspecialties. The student may also use this rotation to strengthen skills in a required area. A student may pursue an area of interest such as medical education, health administration, and research. Alternate clinical rotation learning outcomes would be required for a student completing a non-clinical elective and would be developed specifically for the type of elective rotation. The final decision on approval of non-clinical elective course content will be at the discretion of the PA Program Director and Director of Clinical Education and would require approval by the Curriculum Committee.

Appendix A: This four-week non-clinical elective focuses on developing clinical teaching skills, applying educational theory in clinical medicine, and fostering a deeper understanding of adult learning principles. Participants will engage in active teaching, curriculum development, feedback delivery, and educational scholarship. Students must receive approval from the Director of Clinical Education and the Program Director to substitute a clinical rotation with a non-clinical education elective rotation.  A student must be in good academic standing and receive no lower than a grade of 80% on all End-of-Rotation examinations up to the time of the nonclinical rotation to qualify for this opportunity.  This non-clinical education elective rotation must not occur until the last quarter of the clinical year.
