Through this course, students will move beyond a basic understanding of core constructs of models, theories, and frames of reference (FORs) used in contemporary occupational therapy practice, to critically analyze their potential for application within the learner’s current &/or future practice settings. Through this course, students will move beyond a basic understanding of core constructs of models, theories, and frames of reference (FORs) used in contemporary occupational therapy practice, to critically analyze their potential for application within the learner’s current &/or future practice settings. Students will critically appraise models, theories and FORs through the lens of the profession’s practice framework. Consideration will be given to the role of models, theories and FORs to explain or predict phenomena or therapeutic change, and to guide an evidence-informed approach to assessment and intervention. Finally, students will explore the role(s) of models, theories and FORs within research, and the profession at large.
