Teacher Education Programs

Students seeking licensure to teach in early childhood education/early childhood special education, hearing impairment (preK-12) special education - general curriculum (K-12) or special education: general and adapted curriculum (K-12), and elementary or middle school education must major in Interdisciplinary Studies. Students who seek licensure to teach in secondary schools (grades 6-12) complete an approved Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in a specific major and also complete the Education Minor and Professional Education Coursework..

Academic Advising

All students are assigned a professional advisor and/or faculty advisor upon entering the university. The CEHD Advising Center provides support and assistance to all students and faculty within the school. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor regularly to facilitate smooth progress towards completion of their degree.

Secondary Education


Students who seek licensure to teach in secondary schools (grades 6-12) complete an approved Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in a specific major (math, social studies, science or English) and also complete the Secondary Education Licensure Option described below. Students seeking licensure requirements in secondary science (biology, chemistry, earth science, or physics) will complete their content area requirements at the undergraduate level and can choose to complete their licensure requirements at the graduate level. These requirements must be completed prior to being admitted to the Teacher Education Program.

**Secondary social studies majors must take EDUC 441  for six (6) credit hours; secondary mathematics, and English majors may take EDUC 441  for three (3) credit hours.

***EDRD 416  is not required in the English education program.

Departmental courses in the student’s teaching endorsement content area, i.e., mathematics, English, and social studies are required in addition to the courses listed. Content area coursework must be completed prior to being admitted to the Teacher Education Program.

 

Secondary Education
