Brett E. Taylor, Chair
Reed Hall 309, (540) 831-6147

This program leads to a B.S. degree in physics. There are four different curricula: the experimental and theoretical physics concentration of the physics major, the physics education concentration of the physics major, the astrophysics concentration of the physics major, and the bio-physics concentration of the physics major. The physics major is the appropriate curriculum for a student contemplating a career in physics or engineering. The physics education concentration of the physics major is to prepare a student planning a career as a high school physics teacher. The astrophysics concentration is a flexible program intended for students interested in the application of physics to astrophysics or geophysics. The biophysics concentration is to prepare students for graduate school or a career in this rapidly growing field, or preparation for a professional health career.  All four programs develop analytic and problem-solving skills which will be valuable in any future occupation.
