The College of Education and Human Development prepares professionals to lead with purpose, compassion, and expertise. Programs across the college integrate meaningful, high-impact experiences—such as clinical practice, internships, research, and community engagement—directly into the curriculum to ensure students develop the practical skills and real-world insight needed to make a lasting impact.
The college offers nationally recognized undergraduate programs in elementary, middle, and special education, as well as a range of majors including allied health sciences; health and exercise science; nutrition and dietetics; health and physical education; sport management; outdoor recreation; recreational therapy; and tourism and special events. Graduate offerings include master’s degrees in athletic training; clinical mental health counseling; school counseling; education; educational leadership; literacy education; and special education. A doctoral program in education prepares leaders to address complex educational and social challenges in diverse communities.
Renowned for its strong clinical partnerships and community-based programs, the college collaborates closely with experts in the field to design hands-on experiences that prepare students to thrive in their respective professional environments. These opportunities not only allow students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings but also enable them to contribute meaningfully to the health, education, and well-being of the communities they serve.

The college is organized into three academic departments and one school:
Accreditation
The College of Education and Human Development offers accredited programs that prepare candidates for a range of professions.
Undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare individuals for teacher licensure or endorsement as a reading specialist, school counselor, or educational leader are approved by the Virginia Board of Education and are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
The School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Master of Science in Athletic Training is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
The Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition, Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (DPND) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
The Recreation, Parks and Tourism undergraduate program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professions (COPART).

Radford University’s professional educator preparation programs are coordinated by the CEHD Associate Dean and Director of Field Experience. The Office of Field Experience administers a variety of services which support educator preparation programs within CEHD, as well as other colleges, including CVPA, CHBS and ARTIS. Specifically, the office manages policies and procedures regarding admission/readmission, retention, and field placements including Early Field Experiences, Student Teaching, and Graduate Practica and Internships. The office also coordinates professional development programs, seminars, and workshops for teacher preparation candidates and university and school clinical faculty. The Office oversees state program approval of the university’s educator preparation programs and assists with university and national assessment and accreditation efforts for educator preparation programs.
