Criminal Justice Major
All requirements for the criminal justice major are outlined below. Among the requirements are Core Major Requirements, Other Major Courses, Related Requirements, and B.A./B.S. Requirements. In order to graduate with a major in Criminal Justice, students must complete all CRJU prefix courses with a grade of “C” or better.
Declaring a Major in Criminal Justice
During their first 45 credit hours, students wishing to declare a major in Criminal Justice will be designated as Criminal Justice Pre-Majors. In order to declare a criminal justice major, students must have completed at least 45 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.25.
Core Curriculum Requirements (43-45 credits)
In College Core B , all majors in programs in the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences are required to pass a second course in Social and Behavioral Sciences; i.e., CHBS majors cannot fulfill College Core B requirements with a Health and Wellness course.
Criminal Justice majors are required to take the following four courses and are advised to take them as part of their Core Curriculum requirements: Core Major Requirements (24 credits)
Other Major Courses: (12 credits)
Four additional courses for a total of twelve hours of classes with a CRJU prefix are required. Core requirements for the criminal justice major, independent studies (CRJU 498 ), and internship hours (CRJU 484 ) do not satisfy this requirement. More than one CRJU 490 Seminar will count towards the twelve hours provided that the topic of the seminar varies. Related Requirements: (6 credits)
Two courses will be chosen from: B.S. Requirements (6-12 credits)
Students should consult with their academic advisor as to which degree option best suits their needs.
The Bachelor of Science requirements for criminal justice majors consists of six (6) semester hours chosen from the following list of courses. See Academic Policies regarding the use of credit to fulfill multiple requirements. Electives
Students should consult with their academic advisor in selecting elective courses to complete 120 semester hours required for graduation. Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate with a major in criminal justice, a letter grade of “C” or higher must be earned in all “CRJU” prefix courses. See here course repeat policy. |
