Students pursuing the minor are strongly encouraged to fulfill an internship in an agency, department or program that advocates the betterment of women’s lives. The Women’s and Gender Studies Director will approve the internship and the intern will meet regularly with a faculty advisor to process the internship experience and relate it to the scholarship in Women’s and Gender Studies.
In some semesters, courses including, but not limited to, ARTH 414 , ARTH 431 , ENGL 414 , ENGL 470 , HLTH 450 , MGNT 471 , MKTG 471 , NURS 450 , SOCY 495 and SOWK 480 , may focus on the study of women or gender issues. When this is the case, they will be eligible for inclusion in the minor. Special topics 490 courses and independent studies 498 courses focusing on women can, with approval, be used to fulfill electives. Not more than six of the 12 elective hours may be 290, 490 and/or 498 courses. In addition, any course with a significant focus on women and gender may be approved by the Director for a student’s program of study in the Minor.
