Interdisciplinary Studies Major
The Interdisciplinary Studies Major in Liberal Arts (IDSL) degree is intended for students who have a clearly defined educational goal that is best met by an interdisciplinary path. The flexibility offered by this program is aimed at accomplishing unique and specifically defined sets of learning goals. Students must submit an application for admission to the IDSL program. Applications are available on the IDSL website. In their applications for admission to the IDSL program, students must complete an essay explaining why they want to enter the IDSL program by noting their educational and career goals, articulating a curriculum for their learning goals, and discussing why their goals are best met by this major.
Core Curriculum Requirements (43-45 credits)
In College Core B , all majors in programs in the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences are required to pass a second course in Social and Behavioral Sciences; i.e., CHBS majors cannot fulfill College Core B requirements with a Health and Wellness course.
Liberal Arts Major Requirements (49 credits)
One class used to fulfill Interdisciplinary Studies major requirements may be used to fulfill Core Curriculum requirements. Liberal Arts Required Courses (13 credits)

Liberal Arts Concentration (36)
Concentration Requirements
The Liberal Arts concentration is comprised of two focus areas, where students must complete 36 credit hours (one of the focus areas must be from the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences) with a minimum of 12 hours in each. Focus areas are defined as courses offered by an individual department or school. At least 50 percent of each focus areas must be taken at the 300-400-level.
For the purpose of computing the major grade point average, the major is defined as the courses taken to complete the Liberal Arts Major Specific Requirements as well as the courses within the two focus areas.
B.S. Requirements (6-8 credits)
Interdisciplinary Studies in Liberal Arts majors pursuing the Bachelor of Science degree must complete six to eight semester hours chosen from the following:
Any class (if not used to meet a Core Curriculum requirement) in ANSC, APST, BIOL, CHEM, COMS, CRJU, ECON, GEOG, GEOL, GEOS, INST, ITEC, MATH, PHYS, SOCY, SOWK, STAT, WMST, or 300-400 level course in: ENGL, HIST (300 –level only) , PEAC, PHIL, POSC, PSYC, RELN. Additional courses can be considered on an individual basis in consultation with the program director. Total Credits Needed for Degree (120)
