All students majoring in Anthropological Sciences for the B.A. or B.S. degree, regardless of concentration, must complete the following coursework:

Core Curriculum Requirements (43-45 credits)

All majors in Anthropological Sciences must complete STAT 200 , which is approved for Core Curriculum credit (College Core B: Mathematical or Natural Sciences), and SOCY 121 , which is approved for Core Curriculum credit (University Core B: Social and Behavioral Sciences, College Core A: Global Perspectives).

Concentrations

Majors must choose one of the concentrations outlined below.

B. A. Requirements (6 – 8 credits)

The Bachelor of Arts degree requires completion of the B.A. language requirements described in this catalog.

General Anthropology Concentration (27 credits)

The General Anthropology Concentration is designed for students who wish for a broader foundation in anthropology. This concentration is recommended for students interested in careers and/or graduate programs in biological anthropology, cultural and heritage resource management, and archaeology. Students are encouraged to take a variety of biological and archaeological anthropology coursework in order to build an interdisciplinary understanding of the field. In addition to the Required Anthropological Sciences courses listed above, students in the General Anthropological Concentration must complete the following:

Biological Anthropology Requirements (6-8 credits)

Students must take at least 2 courses from among the following options:

Archaeological Anthropology Requirement (6-9 credits)

Students must take at least 2 courses from among the following options:

Anthropological Sciences Electives (4-9 credits)

Students will take additional courses from either of the two elective lists above or the following classes for an overall total of 21 credits in Anthropological Science classes.

Additional Courses

In addition students in the General Anthropology concentration must take at least 6 credit hours in one of the following disciplines: a Foreign Language, History, Geology, Geospatial Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, or Statistics.

Forensic Anthropology Concentration (26-30 credits)

Students interested in specializing in Forensic Anthropology have the option of choosing a Forensic Anthropology Concentration. This preprofessional concentration prepares students for graduate-level study of recent unidentified human remains in a medicolegal context. In addition to the Required Anthropological Sciences Courses listed above, students in the Forensic Anthropology Concentration must complete the following:

Graduation Requirements

To graduate with a major in Anthropological Sciences, students must have a C- or better in all courses taken for major requirements including those from other departments. In addition students graduating with an Anthropological Sciences major must have at least a 2.5 GPA in the major.
