The certificate in Appalachian Studies consists of 18 graduate credit hours chosen from among those courses listed below. Other courses may be added to the list with the approval of the Appalachian Studies Committee. Courses do not have to be taken in a particular sequence since each is a complete entity within itself. Therefore, students may begin the curriculum in any semester. However, students are required to take APST 610, 620, and 698 to receive the certificate. Many classes are offered online asynchronously.
Each hour of credit will require 40 hours on the job. The course is a one semester internship with a public or private agency in Appalachia. Student will receive academic and agency supervision. The course will be graded on a pass/fail basis.
