Accounting Certificate


Accounting Certificate Program

The Department of Accounting, Finance & Business Law in the College of Business and Economics (COBE) offers an accounting certificate for students possessing an undergraduate degree who would like to re-tool to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam. Students entering this program would be seeking a career in accounting. The program would consist of 30 credit hours of work in accounting and could be completed in one year. Students who want to sit for the CPA exam must have an undergraduate degree, have completed at least 24 hours of accounting coursework beyond principles of accounting, and must have completed at least 24 hours of other business coursework. This certificate program satisfies the accounting coursework requirement.

Prerequisites: 6 Credit Hours*

ACTG 211 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting  

ACTG 212 Fundamentals of Managerial Accounting  

*Can be taken in summer session or elsewhere, but must be completed prior to enrollment in upper division classes

**Students can transfer in up to 6 credits of accounting coursework from other colleges or universities.

A student who has completed the prerequisites can complete the certification program by completing 24 credit hours of accounting coursework. There are five classes offered each fall, five classes offered each spring, and three of the classes are also offered in the summer.
