Peace Studies Minor (A)

The Peace Studies Minor is a dynamic interdisciplinary study where students investigate all manner of human endeavors as it relates to peace. The goal is to provide students a framework where they examine and describe aspects of society (relationships, behaviors, social institutions, cultures, environments) and then analyze them in regards to how to achieve more peaceful outcomes. Students are required to take PEAC 200, Introduction to Peace Studies in this course they will be introduced to aspects of peace as they begin to first identify and describe current issues related to local, national, or global behaviors, beliefs, social institutions, cultures and environments. As students examine different issues they analyze how the concept of peaceful solutions can impact those current issues.

REAL Curriculum

This minor fulfills A area of the REAL Curriculum. Through the lens of peace, students look at different aspects of global, national, local, interpersonal, intrapersonal, topics to note where and why conflicts exist. Students will describe the behaviors, beliefs, that are the underpinnings to cultures, social institutions and environments that result in these conflicts.

REAL Cornerstone Requirements

Writing Intensive (WI) Courses (6 credits)

Writing Intensive courses are denoted below with a (WI). Two writing intensive courses are required to graduate, with at least one at the 300- or 400-level. The Peace Studies minor includes 3 credits of writing intensive courses.

General Education Requirements

General Education courses will be denoted below with a (GE). Students are required to take at least 30 credit hours of general education designated courses within their degree requirements. The Peace Studies minor includes 3 general education credits.
