Leadership and Military Science Minor (L)

The Leadership and Military Science minor program is designed to supplement any major and will be available to all university students. It will provide students with a foundation to enter the workforce after graduation.

REAL Curriculum
The minor fulfills the L area of the REAL Curriculum. For the L requirement, Cadets take various of courses through all four years of Military Science that prepares them for their future careers in the Army. These courses include but are not limited to critical thinking, personal development, leadership development, analytical thinking, troop leading procedures, and Army problem-solving. Each year, Cadets learn more about their unique leadership styles. They are given positions within the organization to refine their skills, starting at the lowest level as a team leader and working their way up to platoon and company commander positions. These lessons allow them to hone their ability to create a positive environment, foster relationships with their leaders and subordinates, and how to navigate the challenge of leading at a peer-to-peer level. Students need majors and/or minors to fulfill the R, E, and A areas to complete the REAL Curriculum requirements.
Minor Requirements (31 credits)
Required Courses (28 credits)
Elective (3 credits)
Students may select one of the following courses. HIST 302 is required to be commissioned as an officer. It is highly recommended that this course be taken no later than the junior year.
Additional Degree Requirements
Students must have a grade of “C” or above in all courses required for the program in order to graduate.

Additional Information
The minor will be supervised and administered by the Military Science (MSCI) department.
ROTC students who take a 5 week summer Leadership Training Course at Ft. Knox can count this camp as credit toward ROTC Basic course (MSCI 111 , MSCI 112 , MSCI 211 , and MSCI 212 ) and the minor in Leadership and Military Science.
