Offered by the department of Theatre and Cinema and the School of Communication, the interdisciplinary minor in Cinematic Arts consists of 18 semester hours.

REAL Curriculum
This minor fulfills the A area of the REAL Curriculum The cinematic arts minor allows students to explore formalist, historical, and cultural analysis of cinema and other screen media. Students need majors and/or minors to fulfill the R, E, and L areas to complete the REAL Curriculum requirements.
REAL Cornerstone Requirements
Writing Intensive (WI) Courses (6 credits)
Writing Intensive courses are denoted below with a (WI). Two writing intensive courses are required to graduate, with at least one at the 300- or 400-level. The Cinematic Arts minor includes 3 credits of writing intensive courses.
General Education Requirements
General Education courses will be denoted below with a (GE). Students are required to take at least 30 credit hours of general education designated courses within their degree requirements. The Cinematic Arts minor includes 6 general education credits.

*At least 3 credits must be at the 300/400 level.
Note(s):
Electives must be approved by their Cinematic Arts advisor prior to registration. Some courses may have prerequisites or require permission of the instructor before registration.
Other courses with a significant film component may be used as an elective. Students wishing to petition a course to be included as an elective must email the program director(s) and include a copy of the course’s syllabus. The final decision as to whether the course will count as an elective rests with the program director(s). Special topic courses that sometimes have a film component include: THEA 475 , COMS 460 , and CRJU 490 .
No more than 6 credits can count for both the minor and any other program the student has declared.
