The Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Systems provides a foundation in information technology combined with courses from other areas to prepare students to work for companies managing their technology resources. Students must choose from at least one of the concentrations within the major: Healthcare Information Systems, Information Systems and Decision Sciences, Information Systems and Web Development, or Information Systems Security.

REAL Curriculum
This major fulfills the R and L areas of the REAL Curriculum. Students fulfill the R area through classes though the skills and knowledge gained in a calculus class, a programming class and a business analytics and decision making course.
Students fulfill the L area through classes developing and reflecting on their professional skills, experience and abilities in a number of classes teaching skills in area such as networks, web site development, databases and information systems design and development.
Students need majors and/or minors to fulfill the E and A areas to complete the REAL Curriculum requirements.

Writing Intensive (WI) Courses (6 credits)
Writing Intensive courses are denoted below with a (WI). Two writing intensive courses are required to graduate, with at least one at the 300- or 400-level.
General Education Requirements
General Education courses will be denoted below with a (GE). Students are required to take at least 30 credit hours of general education designated courses within their degree requirements. The Information Science and Systems major includes 10-18 general education credits.

B.S. Requirement (6-8 credits)
Students concentrating in Decision Analysis, Web Development or System Security must take two courses (each 3-4 hours), one of which must include a lab, chosen from: any Astronomy; any Biology (except BIOL 301 :BIOL 302 ); any Chemistry; any Geology; any Physics.
Students concentrating in Healthcare Information Systems must take BIOL 105 and BIOL 310 to fulfill their BS Requirements.
Students must choose one of four concentrations from the following list:
Healthcare Information Systems, Information Systems and Decision Science, Information Systems and Web Development and Information Systems Security. See below for specific concentration requirements.
Healthcare Information Systems Concentration
In addition to the Core Curriculum, Department Core, B.S. requirements, and electives, students in the Healthcare Information Systems Concentration are required to complete the following:
Information Technology (15 credits)
- ITEC 200 - Healthcare Information Systems
- ITEC 375 - Data Science
- ITEC 497 - ERP Systems
- Plus 6 additional credit hours chosen from any 300 or 400-level ITEC courses (except ITEC 301 , ITEC 304 , ITEC 307 , ITEC 369 , ITEC 381 , ITEC 395 , ITEC 398 , ITEC 466 , ITEC 493 , ITEC 495 , ITEC 497 , or ITEC 498 ) or any 500 or 600-level ITEC course approved by the School Director.
Information Systems and Decision Analysis Concentration
In addition to the Core Curriculum, Department Core, B.S. requirements, and electives, students in the Information Systems and Decision Analysis Concentration are required to complete the following:
Information Technology (15 credits)
- ITEC 375 - Data Science
- ITEC 485 - Decision Support Systems
- ITEC 497 - ERP Systems
- Plus 6 additional credit hours chosen from any 300 or 400-level ITEC courses (except ITEC 301 , ITEC 304 , ITEC 307 , ITEC 369 , ITEC 381 , ITEC 395 , ITEC 398 , ITEC 466 , ITEC 493 , ITEC 495 , ITEC 497 , or ITEC 498 ) or any 500 or 600-level ITEC course approved by the School Director.
Information Systems and Web Development Concentration
In addition to the Core Curriculum, Department Core, B.S. requirements, and electives, students in the Information Systems and Web Development Concentration are required to complete the following:
Information Technology (15 credits)
- ITEC 325 - Web Programming II
- ITEC 375 - Data Science
- ITEC 425 - Advanced Web Development
- Plus 6 additional credit hours chosen from any 300 or 400-level ITEC courses (except ITEC 301 , ITEC 304 , ITEC 307 , ITEC 369 , ITEC 381 , ITEC 395 , ITEC 398 , ITEC 466 , ITEC 493 , ITEC 495 , ITEC 497 , or ITEC 498 ) or any 500 or 600-level ITEC course approved by the School Director.
Information Systems Security Concentration
In addition to the Core Curriculum, Department Core, B.S. requirements, and electives, students in the Information Systems Security Concentration are required to complete the following:
Information Technology (12 credits)
- ITEC 445 - Computer System and Database Security
- ITEC 455 - Applied Cryptography and Network Security
- Plus 6 additional credit hours chosen from any 300 or 400-level ITEC courses (except ITEC 301 , ITEC 304 , ITEC 307 , ITEC 369 , ITEC 381 , ITEC 395 , ITEC 398 , ITEC 466 , ITEC 493 , ITEC 495 , ITEC 497 , or ITEC 498 ) or any 500 or 600-level ITEC course approved by the School Director.
Criminal Justice (3 credits)
Additional Degree Requirements
All majors require a minimum 2.0 GPA in the major in order to be eligible for graduation. The major GPA for all concentrations is calculated using all courses required for the Degree Core Requirements and courses taken for the concentration(s) selected. Many courses require a “C” or better in the prerequisite. (See “Course Descriptions” section).
Open Credit Hours (31-37 credits)
These credits can be used to fulfill additional courses, majors, minors, and/or REAL Curriculum requirements, including Foundational Writing and Foundational Math.
