The mission of the B.S. in Healthcare Administration program is to provide a broad base of knowledge and skills to prepare students with general analytical, communication, and management competencies for professional roles in the field of healthcare administration. This program will prepare students to work within the fundamental “business” aspects of healthcare.

Successful graduates will become: 1) knowledgeable and skilled in general business management concepts and practices, 2) effective managers within healthcare organizations that include complex competitive, regulatory, and legal environments, 3) knowledgeable in a broad range of social, behavioral, and environmental factors that influence individual and population health in the U.S, and 4) able to apply, integrate, and synthesize acquired knowledge and skills toward the resolution of practical managerial issues and problems.

The major includes four specialties areas: long-term care administration, medical practice management, healthcare administration (human resources or finance) and capstone (research).

REAL Curriculum


This major fulfills the A and L areas of the REAL Curriculum. Students will examine the context and interactions of cultures and behaviors through  (A) (L).

Students need an additional major and/or minor to fulfill the R and E areas to complete the REAL Curriculum requirements.

Writing Intensive (WI) Courses (6 credits)


Writing Intensive courses are denoted below with a (WI). Two writing intensive courses are required to graduate, with at least one at the 300- or 400-level. The Healthcare Administration major includes 3 credits of writing intensive courses.

General Education Requirements


General Education courses will be denoted below with a (GE). Students are required to take at least 30 credit hours of general education designated courses within their degree requirements. The Healthcare Administration major includes 24 general education credits.

Additional Degree Requirements


Students must apply for graduation at least two semesters prior to expected graduation. The student must meet all College and program requirements to graduate.

Open Credit Hours (39-42 credits)


These credits can be used to fulfill additional courses, majors, minors, and/or REAL Curriculum requirements, including Foundational Writing and Foundational Math.

Additional Information


Several courses in the B.S. Healthcare Administration program are delivered in a synchronous, online format. Students must have a computer with webcam, headset, and microphone for online course participation.

Any student admitted to the program must maintain satisfactory progress and be considered in good academic standing to remain in the program. Satisfactory progress requires a minimum of a final grade of “C” or a “P” in all required professional and support courses.
