Research in the solar system and the celestial bodies within it has advanced fundamental knowledge and provides pathways for technological advances that benefit the entire human species. Students will gain an understanding of the origin of Earth and its neighbors, the changes Earth has gone through in its long history, and the natural systems and processes on other planets. A recent resurgence of interest of space exploration, fostered by groundbreaking research on Mars and the discovery of planets outside our solar system will increase scientific awareness and literacy.

REAL Curriculum
This minor fulfills the R area of the REAL Curriculum through examination of samples, observation, and field experience while using scientific and quantitative reasoning to solve scientific problems from both theoretical and practical points of view.
General Education Requirements
General Education courses will be denoted below with a (GE). Students are required to take at least 30 credit hours of general education designated courses within their degree requirements. The Planetary Science minor includes 8-12 general education credits.
