African American Studies Minor

African American Studies is an interdisciplinary field that explores and critically examines the unique cultural, political, economic, and historical experiences of African Americans. In the African American Studies minor program, students take courses in a wide variety of disciplines, including sociology, history, English, and political science. Students develop their critical and analytical skills, increase their multicultural awareness, and have opportunities for applied learning experiences.

Students completing the minor in African American Studies are required to take three African American Studies (AAST) courses and four elective courses: two in the Social and Behavior Sciences, and two in the Arts and Humanities.
