The deadline for applications is February 1. Applicants for the graduate program in COSD must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and a 3.0 in major coursework, and submit all application materials, to include: three letters of reference, GRE scores, personal essay, and the supplemental application/fee. Admission to the program is competitive. Admission decisions begin early March for fall enrollment. The sequence of graduate studies begins in the fall semester, and is a five-semester program.
Academic and Clinical Requirements
COSD students are required to complete course work and clinical practica that meet ASHA’s 2014 Standards for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) in Speech-Language Pathology, including demonstration of prerequisite knowledge of biological sciences, physical sciences, statistics, and the social/behavioral sciences through transcript evidence.
In addition to the standards printed in this catalog, COSD graduate students are required to meet the following academic standards in order to graduate with a master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders:
Earn at least a “C” or better in all COSD courses, and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students earning more than two C’s will be dismissed from the program. Dismissal cannot be petitioned.
Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
Earn a minimum grade of “B” in all COSD 640 credits in the program of study.
Academic and clinical remediation plans will be developed and implemented for those students who earn a C in an academic course or a grade lower than a B in clinical practicum.
For the Master of Science degree at least 14 credit hours of COSD 640 with a grade of “B” or better are required. For the Master of Arts degree at least 11 credit hours of COSD 640 with a grade of “B” or better are required. Any COSD 640 credits in which less than a “B” is earned must be repeated.
If a student earns a grade of “F” in any section of COSD 640 for behavior that is not consistent with professional service delivery and/or any violation of the code of ethics of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the result will be automatic termination from the COSD graduate program.
