REAL Curriculum
This major fulfills the E and L areas of the REAL Curriculum. Students need majors and/or minors to fulfill the R and A areas to complete the REAL Curriculum requirements. Students explore humanistic or artistic expression through inquiry or creativity and critically evaluate, synthesize, or create forms of human expression or inquiry through the Theatre and Cinema program. Students apply knowledge and skills acquired through a variety of courses aimed towards the mastery of essential skills in performance, directorial and design analysis/processes and production practices.
Additional Degree Requirements
Student must be enrolled EACH semester in ONE of the following production courses: THEA 231 , THEA 232 , THEA 260 , THEA 360 or THEA 476 .
Theatre majors must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in department courses for graduation.
Theatre majors must complete all production assignments (a minimum of one per semester) and attend regular periodic reviews in order to remain in good standing as a major.
Open Credit Hours (66-70 credits)
These credits can be used to fulfill additional courses, majors, minors, and/or REAL Curriculum requirements, including Foundational Writing and Foundational Math.
Additional Information
To be accepted as a Theatre major, applicants must complete an entry interview.
Performance students are required to audition for all departmental productions.
Students on academic probation at the beginning of a semester will not be cast or hold a major design, management or crew position beyond registered class requirements during that semester. Performance students are still required to audition.
The department requires all theatre majors to receive written permission from the department chair prior to auditioning, interviewing or accepting a role or position in any production or project outside of the department during the fall and spring semesters.
Theatre majors are required to attend monthly departmental meetings held the first Monday of each month.
