Health Sciences, D.H.S.c. - Radford University Carilion Campus

The Doctorate in Health Sciences at Radford University Carilion equips seasoned health professionals with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to take their careers to the next level. Offered in a flexible format and convenient environment, and designed for health professionals from a wide range of backgrounds, the DHSc program empowers health professionals with the leadership skills needed to become change agents within the fields of healthcare, community and public health, and higher education. Graduating students may pursue opportunities as health service directors/managers, health educators, public health officers, healthcare delivery administrators, researchers, and/or university faculty.

MSHS / DHSc Dual Degree (66 Credits Required)


Students take 54 core credits drawn from the MSHS and DHSc programs and 12 credits from either the Health Administration, Community and Public Health, or Higher Education Concentration.

MSHS / DHSc Dual Degree Core with Optional Clinical Research Administration Concentration Core (54 Core Credits Required)


Students enrolled in the MSHS / DHSc Dual Degree program may opt to complete the MSHS Clinical Research Administration Concentration.

DHSc (42 credits required)


DHSc Concentrations (12 credits required):


MSHS / DHSc Dual Degree students must complete one of the following 12 credit concentrations:

  • Community and Public Health Concentration OR
  • Education Concentration

 

DHSc students must complete one of the following 12 credit concentrations:

  • Administration Concentration
  • Community and Public Health Concentration OR
  • Education Concentration

MSHS / DHSc Dual Degree and DHSc Graduation Requirements


Students enrolled in the MSHS / DHSc Dual-Track Degree program or the DHSc program must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA at all times and will be placed on academic probation if their GPA falls below 3.0. Students who are unable to raise their cumulative GPA to 3.0 at the end of the probation semester or who fall below a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for a second time will be dismissed from the program.

The HSCI 870   capstone project is performed independently under the mentorship of a capstone committee. Students must successfully complete each of the capstone project milestones, in order shown, to successfully pass the capstone and complete the overall DHSc program:

  • Capstone Project Premise 
  • Capstone Project Proposal - presented as a written document and oral defense presentation
  • Capstone Final Defense, presented as a written document and oral defense presentation

The capstone project is completed over two semesters (6 credit hours). If more time is needed to complete the capstone project, students may be given additional semesters to complete their capstone project.
