CCST 130 - Topics in French Studies (GE)

Instructional Method: Three hours lecture.
This course taught in English studies trends in thought, history and geography, literature, art, film, music, architecture, and religions in French and Francophone life to focus on problems in contexts as diverse as art and religion, law and literature, the media, politics, and the performing arts. Emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches to equip students to explore new possibilities for cultural inquiry. Topics and texts relevant to French History and Culture, Early Modern French Studies, and Francophonie and French Language.  Topics may include The Impact of Enlightenment, Balzac’s Age, Avant-Garde France, French Cinema, Second War World and the Maquis Resistance, Women’s writing, Feminist theory, Nationalism and identities, Francophone postcolonial literatures, Francophone Cinema, and Children’s literature, among others. Assignments may include guided oral presentation and/or student-directed research projects. Application of theoretical principles to specific issues of cultural interest.

Note(s): General Education and Humanistic or Artistic Expression designated course.  Course may be repeated, with different topics, for a maximum of 6 credits.  Taught in English.
