AHPT 818 - Neuroscience Credits: (2) Instructional Method: Conduct of the Course: The format of the course may include but is not limited to lecture, discussions and case studies. Prerequisites: AHPT 800 - Human Anatomy Successful completion of all prior course work, or with permission from the department The course is an integrated overview of the functional organization of the human nervous system. This course is organized by discussions of neuroscience at the cellular level, the vertical systems and the regional components of the nervous system. Topics that are emphasized include neural communication, sensory and motor systems, cranial and peripheral nervous systems, and higher order functions controlled by the different regional centers of the brain. Common neurological impairments encountered in physical therapy practice are also introduced and are linked to abnormalities of neural structure and function.
