AHPT 828 - Theory and Practice II Credits: (4) Instructional Method: The format of the course may include but is not limited to lecture, case studies, small group and cooperative learning experiences. Learning will occur in both laboratory and classroom environments and may include off site activities. Prerequisites: Successful completion of all prior coursework or permission of the department.
Theory and Practice II is the second lecture and lab course designed to provide physical therapy students with a foundational understanding of the therapeutic interventions used in physical therapy practice. This course focuses on introductory concepts related to therapeutic exercise prescription and prepares students to design, implement, and evaluate physical therapy therapeutic intervention programs for patients/clients after surgery, injury, disease, or who wish to improve fitness and overall wellbeing. The Student will learn how to improve different components of muscle performance, movement control, cardiorespiratory capacity, range of motion/flexibility, balance and skill acquisition using exercise programs. The course integrates learning content from anatomy, neuroanatomy, patient management, theory and practice, clinical medicine and kinesiology courses.
