Undergraduate Program

Students in the Art Department at Radford University develop skills in a variety of artistic media and disciplines in the visual arts. Undergraduate students may pursue a particular area of interest within two-dimensional or three-dimensional studio art, graphic design, art education, and art history and museum studies. The department also provides supportive course work for other departments and groups on campus, and cultural enrichment for the campus and the community. Students interested in pursuing art careers pursue coursework in such areas as drawing, oil and watercolor painting, graphic design, ceramics, jewelry and metalworking, photography, art education, and art history and museum studies.

Studio art, graphic design, and art history and museum studies programs prepare students for entry-level employment after graduation, for further education in graduate programs, or for internships in a variety of professional environments. The degree in art education prepares students for teaching art in elementary and secondary grades, and/or for entry into graduate programs in art education.

The Art Department offers three undergraduate degrees with five different concentrations: a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Art with a concentration in art history and museum studies, a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Art with a concentration in studio art, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Art with concentrations in art education, graphic design, and studio art. Students in the art education concentration may also earn teacher licensure.

Students in any concentration within the art department must receive a grade of C or better in any course that counts toward the major. Courses receiving a D must be retaken.
