Undergraduate Program

Political Science involves the study of politics and government. The political science curriculum at Radford University is intended to provide undergraduates with a background in the discipline within the context of a liberal arts education. The major and minor requirements in political science are intended to develop students’ analytical and communication skills as well as a knowledge of politics, the public policy process, and government institutions. Our department stresses ethical thinking, an understanding of diversity and global issues, creative problem solving, critical reading and thinking, information literacy, and oral and written communication skills. These skills, alongside an emphasis on understanding the study of politics and how this translates beyond the classroom, help students prepare for a variety of careers as well as graduate or professional studies.

For students desiring to teach political science at the secondary level, the teacher licensure option is offered through the Bachelor of Science program for Social Science.
