B.S. Requirements (6-8 credits)
The Bachelor of Science non-teaching degree requires six to eight hours beyond the Core Curriculum requirements in courses selected from the following departments: Mathematics, Statistics, Communication, Information Science and Technology, any social science, and any natural/physical science. Students who begin but do not complete the B.S. teaching degree will be allowed to use up to eight hours with a College of Education and Human Development departmental prefix toward the B.S. non-teaching requirements.
Teacher Licensure
English majors who wish to earn licensure to teach English must take ENGL 463 to fulfill the language study requirement and also complete the English Education concentration (see below) as part of the major. They also must take ENGL 428 concurrently with student teaching. This counts as part of the professional education core but not as part of the major. To be licensed, a student must also take one of the following: COMS 114 - Public Speaking ; COMS 330 - Communication Theory ; or COMS 240 - Teamwork and Communication .
