REAL Studies Minor in Applied Learning (L)

A minimum of 15 credits in courses designated “L” within the REAL Curriculum, with at least 3 credits at the 300-400 level. Coursework must include classes with at least 2 different prefixes. Students cannot cross-credit courses to simultaneously complete both this minor and a traditional minor/certificate. Students are allowed to cross-credit courses from the L Studies minor with major programs if permissible by the major.
The “L” designation of a course is granted by the REAL Council, and published in the course catalog. “L” designated courses incorporate skills immediately applicable to the workplace and focus on how academic subjects apply to real world problems and opportunities and on practice (doing—knowledge in action) within a profession.
L (Applied Learning) Area Courses:
Learning Goal: To explore professional practice through the application of knowledge, skills, and critical reflection.
Learning Outcomes:
- Students apply acquired knowledge and skills to develop professional identity or professional practice.
- Students critically reflect on their learning, abilities, experiences, or role within professional contexts.
