The Department of Theatre and Cinema offers liberal arts and pre-professional studies culminating in majors in one of two degrees (BA or BS) and minors in Theatre (a General Theatre Minor and a Theatre Performance Minor or a Theatre Production Minor) and a Cinematic Arts Minor. Students of theatre receive instruction that is rich in diverse perspectives and cross-disciplinary experiences. The department and students are supported by a strong production program which makes significant contributions to the cultural life of the university and community. Students are immersed in a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum emphasizing the study and practice of performance, directing, design/technical theatre, history and cinematic arts as well as preparing graduates to pursue a professional career in theatre or study at the post-baccalaureate level. The program provides a challenging variety of performance opportunities in classical, contemporary, musical and theatre for young audience productions. The Theatre Program is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) and participation in department productions is open to all students enrolled in Radford University.

REAL Curriculum
This major fulfills the E and L areas of the REAL Curriculum. Students need majors and/or minors to fulfill the R and A areas to complete the REAL Curriculum requirements. Students critically evaluate, synthesize, or create forms of human expression or inquiry through the Theatre and Cinema program. Students apply knowledge and skills acquired through a variety of courses aimed towards the mastery of essential skills in performance, directorial and design analysis/processes and production practices.

Writing Intensive (WI) Courses (6 credits)
Writing Intensive courses are denoted below with a (WI). Two writing intensive courses are required to graduate, with at least one at the 300- or 400-level. The Theatre major includes 6 credits of writing intensive courses.
General Education Requirements
General Education courses will be denoted below with a (GE). Students are required to take at least 30 credit hours of general education designated courses within their degree requirements. The Theatre major includes 3-9 general education credits.
Major Requirements (48-53 credits)
B.A. Degree Requirements (6-8 credits)
The Bachelor of Arts degree requires completion of the B.A. language requirements described here . For a B.A. degree, you need to take two foreign language courses (in the same language) above the first eight or nine hours. Or if you are a beginner, you will need to take 12 semester hours.

All majors are required to complete nine additional semester hours of courses from the following:
Additional Degree Requirements
Student must be enrolled EACH semester in ONE of the following production courses: THEA 231, THEA 232, THEA 260, THEA 360 or THEA 476.
Theatre majors must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in department courses for graduation.
Theatre majors must complete all production assignments (a minimum of one per semester) and attend regular periodic reviews in order to remain in good standing as a major.
Open Credit Hours (67-72 credits)
These credits can be used to fulfill additional courses, majors, minors, and/or REAL Curriculum requirements, including Foundational Writing and Foundational Math.
