Instructional Method: Three hours lecture.
Provides students with a background of the history of substance use and abuse in the United States. Students will compare substances according to classification, physiological effects of the substances, and potential for misuse and dependence. Students will research the influence of beliefs, cultures, social and environmental influences on substance use as well as the impact of abuse and dependence on society.
