CCST 120 - Topics in Middle Eastern Studies (GE)

Instructional Method: Three hours lecture.
This course studies trends in thought, history and geography, literature, art, film, music, architecture, and religions of the Middle East from ancient to modern times. Topics and texts relevant to Classical Islamic History and Culture, Hebrew and Pre-Modern Jewish History and Culture, Modern Middle Eastern Studies and Muslim-Jewish Relations. Topics may include Middle Eastern Religions, Islam and Politics, Arab-Israel Politics, Gender Politics in the Islamic World, The Cities of the Middle East, Music Cultures of the Middle East, Past and Present, Arab Cinema and Middle Eastern Mass Media among others. Assignments may include guided oral presentation and/or student-directed research projects.

Note(s): General Education and Humanistic or Artistic Expression designated course.  Course may be repeated, with different topics, for a maximum of six credits. Taught in English.
