English Major
All requirements for English majors are outlined below. Among the requirements is a minimum of 48 semester hours of upper-division English courses. All courses for the English major must be completed with a grade of “C-” or higher, and a student must have an overall grade point average of 2.0 or higher in the major. Core Curriculum Requirements (43-45 credits)
In College Core B , all majors in programs in the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences are required to pass a second course in Social and Behavioral Sciences; i.e., CHBS majors cannot fulfill College Core B requirements with a Health and Wellness course. Required Major Courses (36 credits)

Additional Upper Division English Courses (12 credits)
Twelve additional semester hours from any 300- or 400-level English. Electives
Students should consult with their academic advisor in selecting elective courses to complete the 120 semester hours required for graduation. B.A. Requirements (6-8 credits)
The Bachelor of Arts degree requires completion of the B.A. language requirements described here .
Graduation Requirements
In order to count towards the major in English, all courses with an ENGL prefix must have earned a letter grade of “C-” or higher, and a student must have an overall grade point average of 2.0 or higher in the major. Total Credits Needed for Degree 120
Teacher Licensure
English majors who wish to earn licensure to teach English must take ENGL 463 to fulfill the language study requirement and also complete the English Education concentration (see below) as part of the major. They also must take ENGL 428 concurrently with student teaching. This counts as part of the professional education core but not as part of the major. To be licensed, a student must also take one of the following: COMS 114 - Public Speaking; COMS 330 - Communication Theory; or COMS 240 - Teamwork and Communication. In addition, appropriate courses in education must be taken.(Contact an English Education advisor for information concerning these courses.)
Students accepted into the English Education program must be within 9 hours of completing coursework in the English major before beginning the field experience (blocking) semester. Students may take only one 3-hour course (beyond the 1-hour seminar) during the semester they are student teaching. Concentrations
Students seeking one of the pre-professional concentrations will fulfill all the requirements for the English major core and use their elective hours to complete the concentration. Creative Writing Concentration
