The B.S. in Art, with a concentration in Studio Art, has several pathways and is intended for students who are interested in art but who do not plan on pursuing a career as a professional artist. The goal of this degree is to prepare students to pursue either graduate work or career opportunities in art-related disciplines where the B.F.A. degree and/or educational licensure is not required. These areas might include material cultural studies, forensic arts, art therapy, recreational use of art in extracurricular educational settings, or marketing and business.

REAL Curriculum
This major fulfills the E and A areas of the REAL Curriculum. The foundations expressive core, followed by upper level art studios, prepares students to use and interpret the language, tools, and media of artistic expression. The art history core provides experience in the cultural and behavioral analysis of developments in art across history and cultures. Students need majors and/or minors to fulfill the R and L areas to complete the REAL Curriculum requirements.

Writing Intensive (WI) Courses (6 credits)
Writing Intensive courses are denoted below with a (WI). Two writing intensive courses are required to graduate, with at least one at the 300- or 400-level.
General Education Requirements
General Education courses will be denoted below with a (GE). Students are required to take at least 30 credit hours of general education designated courses within their degree requirements. The Bachelor of Science concentration in Studio Art includes 21 general education credits.
Major Requirements (51-55 credits)
B.S. Degree Requirements (6-10 credits)
Any College of Visual and Performing Arts course chosen in consultation with an advisor, except an art course. Required Courses (45 credits)
Pre-Modern Art History (3)
Choose one of the following: Studio Requirements (21 credits)
21 credit hours at 200 level or above in ARTS or ARTG.
Additional Degree Requirements
Students must receive a C or better in any course that counts toward the major. ARTH 316 , ARTH 414 , and ARTH 431 may be taken more than once with a different topic.
Open Credit Hours (65-69 credits)
These credits can be used to fulfill additional courses, majors, minors, and/or REAL Curriculum requirements, including Foundational Writing and Foundational Math.
