Photography Minor

At Radford University, we recognize the critical importance of the photographic image in contemporary society. The photography minor creates connections between disciplines and prepares students to navigate a visual culture dominated by photographic images. The program embraces and supports all approaches to photography. Students examine essential personal, social, cultural, and environmental issues through photography as a fine art while developing critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Technical and aesthetic proficiency in both traditional and digital photography is emphasized. The Photography Minor is a place where you will find active classrooms engaging in real-world projects leading to marketable experiences and skillsets for the museum, documentary, social media, and commercial worlds.

In this highly customizable minor, after taking the first requirements of Digital I (ARTS 262 ), Photography I (ARTS 261 ), students may pursue photography classes that complement their major or fuel their passion. The minor is intended for students in any major who need or desire to acquire professional photographic skills and knowledge. No prior knowledge of photography is required.
