Unmanned Aerial Systems Minor (L)

The use of unmanned aerial systems (drones) has become commonplace across many disciplines. Uses include photography, videography, surveillance of natural disasters, archaeology, crime scenes, fire-fighting and rescue, military, real estate, land use, mapping, infrastructure development, and more. Students of all majors are invited to learn how to fly drones, the rules and regulations behind their use, how to collect and interpret the data collected by them, and to develop research projects appropriate to their major that will develop cutting-edge skills.

REAL Curriculum

This minor fulfills the L of the REAL Curriculum through the development of practical skills and best practices that can be directly applied to professional skills required in a student’s major. Students need majors and/or minors to fulfill the R, E and A areas to complete the REAL Curriculum requirements.

Additional Information

Students may substitute a 3-credit capstone or Independent Study course from their home major for the UAS 410 class if it is based on a research project, involves the use of UAS, and with the agreement of the staff from the home major and the instructor of UAS 410, fulfills the assessment goals of UAS 410.
